Programs
As needs vary from school to school, each program is tailor-made for that school. All our programs have a foundation of Performing Arts, Eco-Literacy and Emotional Intelligence. We believe that Eco-Literacy and Emotional Intelligence are key tools that children of today need, to help build a healthier future for this planet. Performance Arts help the kids to learn in a more creative and physical way, offering a balance between the mind and body.
Performing Arts: Multi-Cultural Dance, Music, Circus Arts, Theatre/ Performance Arts and Martial Arts.
Eco-Literacy: Permaculture, Gardening, Web Of Life, Renewable Resources of Energy, Self-Sustainability and Living in Harmony with the Earth.
Emotional Intelligence: Emotions, Managing Feelings, Non-Violent Communication/ Conscious Communication, Conflict Resolution, Listening skills, Dealing with Issues Of Oppression, Honoring Diversity, Identity, Forgiveness, Self Awareness, Empathy, Managing Stress, Group Dynamics, Decision Making, Personal Responsibility/ Accountablity and Agreements.
Our first steps in creating a curriculum are to research the school, it's needs and it's children.
We ask the kids what they want. It's important that we give some of the decision making power to them, so that they get a feel that we are really looking out for them from the start. One example of this is our teachers audition, which we highly encourage for programs that run longer than two months. The teachers come into the school, and each spend a few minutes presenting a Perfomance Arts Skill that they are offering, to the kids. The kids can then choose from those skill sets. The reason why we do the "audition" in person, instead of by checklist, is so that the kids can get a tangible sense of each skill. For example a kid may not comprehend what "Butoh" is until they actually see it. Once they have experienced a little taste of it they can make an informed decision about it.
Once they have chosen the Performance Arts skill sets, we then encorporate the Eco-Literacy and Emotional Intelligence, to create a well-rounded curriculum.
