Here's a win-win scenario for those of you who are interested...
As you may or may not know, I've been working on three art/documentary photo book projects for the past 2-1/2 years - one about Burning Man, another about the San Francisco's art and culture
underground, and yet another about SF's underground performance artists. As if this isn't enough, I have three others in the back of my mind.
My obsession with art and documentary photography has manifested itself in various ways - capturing unbelievable moments and individuals from the various communities of the underground scene in SF while transforming me as an individual - however I'm now up to 400
unprocessed rolls. I'm forced to come up with creative ideas so that I can get these rolls processed before the latent images breakdown.
Unfortunately, there's no way I can do it through my own fiscal means. Each of these exposed film canisters have many amazing and beautiful images of people you know and many others who are part of the various counter-culture communities in and around San Francisco.
This is my idea... I would like to offer several high quality machine printed, matte, 4x6 art/documentary prints with borders per roll in exchange for helping me cover film, processing, and printing cost of one, two, or a few rolls of my film. Put simply, I am offering my artwork at cost.
What do you get out of it? You will be awarded with the first generation of edited art prints, known as vintage prints, from whatever roll you choose. Besides these being surreal portraits of
beautiful and unusual people, they are suitable for archiving or framing, and will probably go up in value as my career evolves, which I fully expect. I have labeled many of these cannisters with individual's names (when possible), so you can ask for a particular roll, or you can adopt-a-roll that is labeled by an event. I will be
listing these details at a later date.
If you haven't seen my photography, I would love to show it to you! It's unique; like no other work you've seen. So please give me a ring at 351-1581 (h) or 225-1313 (cell - after 8pm please), or drop me a note at this e-mail, and we can arrange to meet in the city. I am hoping to have my website up sometime in November, so if you are not able to meet me before then you will be able to see a limited showing of my artwork on my website.
The costs per roll can range from $40 to $55 (cost itemizations listed below), depending on the film type and process involved. This may surprise you, as Walgreens and Wolf are definitely cheaper, but I have come to expect a high level of service and product that only a
professional lab can deliver; a quality that represents my artistic vision.
When getting each roll processed, I have two copies of each print made; one copy for me and one for you (with the exception of Cross Processed film, details below). I will also select images from this batch to give to those who I have photographed in appreciation for their participation.
I must emphasize that I am not making any money in this type of transaction. The advantage to me is that I get the film processed and ready to be viewed.
Let me know what you think! and read on...
Thanks,
Craig Morse (aka Camera Obscura)
